About us: SA Casino Rank helps South Africans find safe, licensed betting sites. We check each site’s licence, bonus terms, payment options and withdrawal rules, and we tell you what we find, the good and the bad, in plain language.
Why we started SA Casino Rank
Search for “betting sites South Africa” and you’ll find plenty of sites recommending offshore casinos that aren’t licensed here, often with bonus lists copied from somewhere else. Many of those sites never mention that an unlicensed operator can refuse to pay you, or that you have little protection if something goes wrong.
We started SA Casino Rank to do things differently. We only list sites licensed by a South African provincial gambling board, we read the full terms before we recommend a bonus, and we explain the catches that other sites leave out.
Who we are
SA Casino Rank is run by Ruan Muller, based in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape. It is an independent, South African site. We are not owned by a betting company or a casino, and no operator gets to approve what we write about it.
Meet the editor
Ruan Muller is the founder and editor of SA Casino Rank. He researches and writes the reviews and guides on this site, and he is the person who answers when you email us.
Ruan checks each betting site’s provincial licence, bonus terms, FICA process and payout options, then writes up what he finds in plain language, the good and the bad. His aim is simple: help South African players stick to licensed sites, get real value from their play and steer clear of the sites that aren’t worth it.
Every review and guide on SA Casino Rank carries Ruan’s name, so you always know who is responsible for what you are reading.

What we cover
Our focus is betting in South Africa, and the practical questions South African players actually ask:
- Betting site reviews, such as our Play.co.za review and Playabets review
- Slot reviews that explain RTP, volatility, maximum wins and how the bonus features work
- Guides on FICA verification, payment methods, betting bonuses and how to check a licence
- Fixtures for the Springboks, the URC teams and the Proteas, with kick-off times in SAST
How we review betting sites
Every review starts with the basics that protect you: who operates the site, which provincial board licenses it, and whether the licence number checks out. We then look at how FICA verification works, which deposit and withdrawal methods are available, how long payouts take, what the welcome bonus really requires, and how easy it is to reach support.
Every review is based on our own research: the site’s licence, its full terms and conditions, its payment and withdrawal rules, and feedback from South African players. Each review says clearly at the top what it is based on. You can read the full process on our how we review page.
The licensing boards we check
In South Africa, online betting is licensed at provincial level. Before we list a site, we confirm which of these boards has licensed it:
- Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board
- Mpumalanga Economic Regulator
- Gauteng Gambling Board
- KwaZulu-Natal Gaming and Betting Board
- Eastern Cape Gambling Board
- Free State Gambling, Liquor and Tourism Authority
- Limpopo Gambling Board
- North West Gambling Board
- Northern Cape Gambling Board
Our guide on how to check if a betting site is licensed shows you how to do this check yourself in a few minutes.
What we promise
- We only list betting sites licensed in South Africa
- We always say what each review is based on
- We tell you about each site’s weaknesses, not just its bonuses
- We keep our reviews up to date and show when each was last checked
- We’re open about how we earn money
What we don’t do
- We don’t take bets or hold player funds. SA Casino Rank is an information site, not a bookmaker or casino.
- We don’t list offshore or unlicensed casinos, whatever commission they offer.
- We don’t accept payment for a better score or a higher ranking.
- We don’t promise winnings. Betting always carries a risk of losing money.
How we make money
SA Casino Rank is free to use. We earn a commission from some operators when a reader signs up through one of our links. This never costs you anything extra, and links that earn us money are marked as sponsored.
Commission does not decide our rankings or what we say about a site. If a site has slow payouts, strict bonus terms or poor support, we say so, whether we have a partnership with it or not. Our affiliate disclosure explains this in full, and our editorial guidelines set out the rules we write by.
Keeping our information accurate
Bonuses, payment methods and terms change often. We re-check licences, bonuses and payout information regularly and update each page when something changes. If you spot something that is out of date or wrong, tell us and we will check it and correct it.
Responsible gambling matters to us
Betting should be entertainment, never a way to make money or solve money problems. Every page on this site is for adults aged 18 and over. If gambling stops being fun, free confidential help is available from the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation on 0800 006 008. Our responsible gambling page lists the tools and support available.
