R25 sign-up bonus + 50 free spins
No deposit needed
Licensed by the Gauteng Gambling Board, Limpopo Gambling Board and Mpumalanga Economic Regulator
Hollywoodbets is South Africa’s best-known bookmaker, with close to 100 retail branches and one of the biggest online betting sites in the country. In this review we check which boards license it, what the R25 sign-up bonus and 50 free spins are really worth, how withdrawals work, and who Hollywoodbets suits best.
How this review was made: this is a researched review, based on Hollywoodbets’ own website, its sign-up bonus terms, its withdrawal terms and its published licence documents, all checked in October 2026. We haven’t timed a real withdrawal yet, so withdrawals are marked “not yet tested” in our ratings. SA Casino Rank only reviews sites licensed in South Africa.

Our verdict
Hollywoodbets is the safest pick for South Africans who want a big, established local bookmaker with excellent horse racing, Lucky Numbers and Spina Zonke slots. Its online site holds licences from three provincial boards, the sign-up bonus needs no deposit, and you can deposit or withdraw cash at a branch, which few rivals offer.
The trade-offs: the R25 bonus is small and must be used within 24 hours, the free spin winnings are capped at R600, and voucher-style withdrawals are limited to R3,000 a day. There’s also no loyalty programme, so regular bettors get rotating promotions rather than guaranteed cashback. If rewards for regular play matter to you, compare our betting loyalty programmes guide.

Licence and safety
Hollywoodbets is not one company but a group of provincial companies, each licensed by its own provincial gambling board. That matters because a South African betting site is only legal if a provincial board licenses it.
According to the licence notice on its own website, Hollywoodbets.net and Hollywoodbets.mobi are licensed by the Gauteng Gambling Board, the Limpopo Gambling Board and the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, with specific products licensed by the KwaZulu-Natal Gaming and Betting Board and the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. Some review sites only quote the Western Cape licence, which covers one branch, not the whole website.
| Board | Licence number listed by Hollywoodbets | Issue date |
|---|---|---|
| Gauteng Gambling Board | BRA-024 (Boksburg) | 17 March 2009 |
| Mpumalanga Economic Regulator | 9-2-1-00051 (eMalahleni) | 26 October 2020 |
| Limpopo Gambling Board | Book 007-LGB (Polokwane) | 1 April 2015 |
| KwaZulu-Natal Gaming and Betting Board | BOM0092, ETHEK 43 (Argyle) | 19 June 1999 |
| Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board | 10000107-029 (Vasco) | 1 November 2023 |
You can check any of these numbers yourself on the board’s website. Our guide on how to check a betting site’s licence shows you how. Hollywoodbets also lists the National Gambling Board, the National Responsible Gambling Programme and the Financial Intelligence Centre as official partners in its footer.
Signing up and FICA
- Open hollywoodbets.net (or the app) and tap Join.
- Enter your name, South African ID number (or passport number) and cell number. Hollywoodbets checks your ID with a verification tool when you register.
- Confirm your account with the code sent to your phone. The R25 sign-up bonus is credited once your account is active, and the 50 free spins appear when you first log in.
- Upload your FICA documents (the menu has an Upload FICA Now link). The bonus terms say you can bet before you’re FICA-approved, but you can’t withdraw until your documents are approved.
If the verification tool can’t match your ID at sign-up, Hollywoodbets may ask for documents before it activates the account. Our FICA for betting guide explains which documents to have ready.
Welcome bonus and terms
New customers get R25 and 50 free spins with no deposit. These are the key rules from Hollywoodbets’ own sign-up bonus terms:
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| R25 sign-up bonus | Must be used within 24 hours of account activation or it’s forfeited |
| Minimum odds | Bets must be at odds of 5/10 or more. Hollywoodbets writes this as “0.5 decimal” in its own format; in standard decimal odds that’s 1.5 |
| Withdrawing the R25 | Not allowed until it has been wagered in full at the minimum odds |
| Banned bets | You can’t bet both sides of the same event (for example High and Low on Lucky Numbers) |
| Free spins | 50 spins at 60c each (R30 in total), on your first login |
| Eligible slots | Hot Hot Hollywoodbets, Hot Hot Fruit and Rainbow Mania (all Habanero) |
| Spin expiry | 24 hours after claiming |
| Spin wagering | Winnings must be wagered 10 times on the same three games |
| Maximum payout | R600 from the free spins |
| Limits | One per person, household, account and IP address; FICA approval needed before your first withdrawal |
What the bonus is really worth
Put the R25 on a single bet at odds of 1.5 and a win returns R37.50. The free spins are worth R30 at face value, but every rand you win has to be played through 10 times on the same three slots, so most players finish with far less than they started with. Treat the offer as a free trial of the site, not free money. One of the three eligible games is Hot Hot Fruit; our Hot Hot Fruit review explains why its RTP varies between sites.
Compare it with other no-deposit offers on our no-deposit bonuses page.
Other promotions
Hollywoodbets runs a rotating set of promotions rather than a points scheme. When we checked in October 2026 they included:
- Refer a Friend: a free R50 betting voucher for every friend you help open an account.
- Halakasha Soccer Jackpot: a monthly jackpot for R20 bets that include major leagues such as the Premier League and the PSL.
- Soccer Bonus Bonanza: a percentage bonus on soccer multibets that grows with the number of legs.
- Weekly Holly Jackpot and crash-game tournaments on selected games.
- Punters Challenge: a free-to-play prediction game.
Each promotion has its own terms and end date, so read them on the Hollywoodbets promotions page before you opt in. Multibet bonuses in particular encourage bigger accumulators, which are much harder to win; our multibet calculator shows how quickly the odds stack against you.
Deposits
Hollywoodbets lists 22 deposit options on its own How to Make a Deposit page, all available on both the website and the mobile site, plus 1Voucher and cash at its branches. The ones most South Africans will use:

See how these compare at other sites in our betting payment methods guide.
Withdrawals
Hollywoodbets pays out by bank EFT, by the four bank cash-send services and in cash at branches. Its published terms for the cash-send services are strict:
| Method | Per withdrawal | Processing |
|---|---|---|
 FNB eWallet | R100 to R3,000 | Within 24 hours (banking hours) |
Standard Bank Instant Money | R100 to R3,000 | Within 24 hours; voucher and PIN by SMS |
 Nedbank Send-iMali | R100 to R3,000 | Within 24 hours; not processed Mon to Fri 18:30 to 06:00 or Sat 13:30 to Mon 06:00 |
 ABSA CashSend | R100 to R3,000 | Within 24 hours; not processed Mon to Sat 20:00 to 06:00 or Sun 17:00 to 06:00 |
- Daily and monthly caps: R3,000 a day and R25,000 a month across these cash-send methods, in multiples of R10.
- Fees: one withdrawal is free; a second one is charged at the bank’s fee.
- Unclaimed vouchers: Send-iMali vouchers not collected within 48 hours may be reversed back to your account.
- FICA first: no withdrawal is processed until your FICA documents are approved.
- Bigger wins: use EFT to your own bank account, which isn’t bound by the R3,000 daily cash-send limit. Check the EFT limits in your account before you rely on it.
We haven’t timed a real Hollywoodbets withdrawal yet. When we do, we’ll add the result here.
Sports and horse racing
Horse racing is where Hollywoodbets stands out. The group holds the betting licences at Greyville and Scottsville racecourses, covers South African racing in depth, and adds international meetings, plus a dedicated racing section and its Pitchside app. Its soccer coverage is just as broad, with PSL, European leagues and a Bet Builder for same-game multis, plus rugby, cricket, tennis, Formula 1, UFC and eSports.
Planning a Bok bet? Our Springboks fixtures page has kick-off times in SAST, and the each-way calculator works out racing returns with 1/4, 1/5 or 1/6 place terms.
Spina Zonke and casino-style games
Spina Zonke is Hollywoodbets’ slot section, and it’s a big part of the site, alongside Aviator, crash games, live tables, bingo and scratch cards. Some games are Hollywoodbets exclusives, and the site runs weekly jackpots across selected slots.
Keep in mind that casino-style games at bookmakers are legally disputed in South Africa. In 2025 the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled that a Gauteng-licensed bookmaker could not offer casino-style games under a bookmaker licence, and regulators in other provinces have taken different views since. Read is online casino legal in South Africa? for the latest position.
Lucky Numbers
Hollywoodbets offers Lucky Numbers bets on draws from lotteries around the world, with the day’s draws one tap away on the homepage. Remember that the sign-up bonus can’t be used on both High and Low in the same draw. Our Lucky Numbers guide explains how the bets and odds work.
Mobile app and data-free betting
- iPhone: the Hollywoodbets app is on the Apple App Store.
- Huawei: available on Huawei AppGallery.
- Android: use the mobile site, or check Hollywoodbets’ own website for its current Android download.
- Data-free: the menu includes a Go Data Free option, useful if you’re low on data.
- Extra apps: separate Livescores, Pitchside (racing) and Punters Challenge apps.
Download apps only from the official stores or Hollywoodbets’ own site. Fake betting apps are a common scam in South Africa.
Logging in and account help
Log in with the button at the top right of hollywoodbets.net or in the app. If you’ve forgotten your password or changed your number, use the Change Password or Cell Number link at the top of the site rather than opening a new account, because a second account breaks the one-account rule and can void bonuses.
For FICA questions, Hollywoodbets lists its FICA team on 087 353 7634 and HWHelpline@hollywoodbets.net. Promotions queries go to promotions@hollywoodbets.net, and there’s a live chat button on the site.
Responsible gambling
Hollywoodbets offers cooling-off periods for sports and casino games, and it’s a partner of the National Responsible Gambling Programme. If betting stops being fun, call the free counselling line on 0800 006 008 or WhatsApp HELP to 076 675 0710. Read our responsible gambling guide for limits and self-exclusion.
